Mortgage and Home Warranty Scams on the Rise
If you have received a postcard or letter referencing an urgent matter regarding your property, please know that you are not alone. There are numerous scammers across the country who obtain property owner and financing information from public records such as lien filings and reach out to you with fraudulent offers for home warranties which are about to “expire”. They inspire urgency using terms such as “final notice” or “call before the respond date expires” to catch you off-guard.
We encourage you to take a step back, read the information over carefully checking for statements such as “XYZ Company is not affiliated with your current mortgage holder”. If you are still unsure, please feel free to contact us directly with any questions through the number published on our website, through Live Chat or with your mortgage loan officer or local branch. Never call the number in the postcard or letter. If you receive one of these communications, please just shred it or dispose of it as you would any other junk mail which you receive.
Always remember:
- Be careful of urgent or high-pressure messaging, don’t fall victim to scare tactics
- Never provide payment information over the phone to someone that you do not know
- Always verify the information directly with the financial institution or lender
