Trying to find ways to save some money when you shop?

You’re always on the hunt for the best price tag, but also keep the quality of the product in mind. Saving money doesn’t mean purchasing the cheapest. According to the Federal Trade Commission, items that costs more may last longer, making them a better value.

If you’re still seeking ways to cut costs, have you considered using coupons?

What are coupons?

Coupons offer deals on some products and services at stores and online, normally as a piece of paper from a newspaper or magazine, or a promotional code on a website. Coupons can save you money; however, they only help when you are buying something necessary. The Federal Trade Commission suggests that just because you have a coupon doesn’t mean you should buy the item.

Where can you save?

You may think couponing is daunting and time-consuming, but it’s not. With access to promotional codes, and downloadable coupons, you should use them to save on these items:

  • Clothing: You can often find discounts on clothes, especially on Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Most major retailers are likely to offer coupons and promotional codes just by signing up for their emails or visiting coupon sites or apps.
  • Shoes: Avoid paying full price with special coupons. Some shoe retailers offer loyalty programs that allow members to earn points toward future purchases.
  • Jewelry: One of the best times to find marked-down jewelry is during the holiday season. You should not only use a coupon, but also time your purchase to sales and clearance opportunities.
  • Restaurants: Local restaurants may mail out offers for discounts on meals. There are also daily deal sites such as Groupon for coupons. This may also include pizza places, especially around the holidays and the Super Bowl.
  • Oil changes: Maintenance on your car may get expensive, so having a coupon to save can really help.
  • Arts and crafts: Crafts stores such as Michaels™ often offer coupons for a certain discount off any one regularly priced item. You can look for the printed advertisements or download coupons off the retailers’ websites or apps.
  • Houseware: Home goods and department stores may offer promotional discounts, so you don’t have to pay full price for cookware, dinnerware, or small kitchen appliances.
  • Diapers: Search for popular brands to find the best coupons.
  • Baby formula: Though it can be expensive, use coupons to cut down the cost.

Where else can you save?

Some other items you should use a coupon on may include:

  • Foods: Frozen foods; condiments such as ketchup, mayonnaise, and mustard; cereal.
  • Personal care: Cosmetics; toothpaste and toothbrushes; shampoo; deodorant; toilet paper; cold and flu medications; antacids and heartburn relief.
  • Household items: Laundry detergent; cleaning products; batteries.
